Thinking About Buying a Condo?

I have had a number of people asking me lately about purchasing condos.  It seems that there are still plenty of people out there that really don’t see the purpose of buying a condo.  The reality is that, depending upon your lifestyle and personal needs, a condo can be a great investment and an excellent purchase.

The way I see it, there are five main reasons for purchasing a condo.  These include:

  • Making upkeep easy
  • Enjoying amenities
  • Serving as an investment
  • Getting more spacing
  • Socializing

If you are someone that doesn’t like to mow lawns or perform other maintenance duties associated with having a home, a condo is a good choice.  When you live in a condo, these tasks are taken care of for you.  You also get to enjoy certain amenities that you might not be able to afford on your own, such as having a community swimming pool or gym.  At the same time, you are still making an investment when you purchase a condo.  Therefore, you don’t have to feel like you are “throwing your money away” like when you rent.

When you buy a condo, you can usually get more space than what you would get if you rented an apartment.  In addition, condos are generally more affordable when compared to homes of a comparable size.  There are actually some pretty good deals out there if you look hard enough.

Another hidden benefit to living in a condo is that it offers you plenty of opportunities for socializing.  Often, the residents of condos enjoy getting together and spending time with one another.  Really, you are not just purchasing a piece of real estate when you buy a condo.  You are also buying into a community.  Of course, condos are also generally located in an area that makes it easy to access everything the city has to offer too.  So, if you feel like going out and socializing, the city is at your front door!

These are very valid points. I would also add that condos are great for women living alone, since good condos often provide very good security – more security than you would enjoy in a single-family home in many cases. For people who travel a great deal, too, condos are very good because of the extra security and the lack of maintenance.

How are the condos doing in oregon? In Massachusetts sales single-families & multi-families are down, however Boston condos are up. I think many people just want convenience these days, especially in the city.
