Oregon Cascades, Get Your Snowboards And Skis Ready

With the approaching snow expected this weekend and ski resorts in the Oregon Cascade Range ready to open there are hundreds of Eugene and Willamette Valley snowboarders and skiers ready to hit the mountain slopes. Are you dreaming of Mt Bachelor, Hoodoo, Willamette Pass or maybe Mt Hood Skibowl and Timberline Lodge?

I just wanted to get your blood pumping a little more with this wild snowboarding video. It obviously was not shot in the Cascades but I really didn't think you would mind.

Mystery Ships Appear On Oregon Coast

T he seas off the Oregon Coast are brutal in the winter often bringing storm watchers from around the world to take in the magnificence of the wild Pacific Ocean, but this winter has not been especially rough compared to say the winter of 1998-1999 which pounded Oregon with five tremendous storms which experts considered 100-year events and eroded as much as 120 feet of beach in places.

Even that winter did not reveal the treasures hidden in the sand that this winter has. So far the beach erosion in recent weeks has uncovered three ships and two cannons with more artifacts being found nearly everyday, artifacts that have not been seen for a century or more. Archaeologists can not get to the historic relics fast enough.

Oregon Residents Receive Tax Rebate Check – “Kicker” Refund

Oregon taxpayers received some extra spending money just in time for Christmas.

Oregon’s law requires the state to rebate taxpayers when tax collections are above projections by more than 2 percent. The state is refunding $1.1 billion in rebates. 

Typical with any government entity, all has not gone smoothly though. Many residents counting on the “kicker” checks to be in time for Christmas found out that theirs had mistakenly been sent to charities and they are waiting to hear if they will get them back. While approximately 12,000 people chose to send their rebate checks to charities totaling about $6.7 million. Many charities have really cranked up their advertising to entice taxpayers to donate some of that money. It is the season for giving, so…
